Respiratory Protection Program
1. Purpose:
The Respiratory Protection Program at Caliber Construction Alaska was established to ensure the health and safety of our employees by minimizing exposure to airborne contaminants that may pose a risk to respiratory health. This program outlines procedures for selecting, using, and maintaining respiratory protection equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and industry best practices.
2. Scope:
This program applies to all Caliber Construction Alaska employees who may be exposed to airborne contaminants exceeding permissible exposure limits, as well as contractors and visitors working on Caliber Construction Alaska premises.
3. Responsibilities:
- Management:
- Provide necessary resources for the implementation and maintenance of the Respiratory Protection Program.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Support training initiatives and hazard assessments.
- Safety Officer:
- Oversee the implementation and enforcement of the Respiratory Protection Program.
- Conduct regular assessments of respiratory hazards in the workplace.
- Ensure that appropriate respiratory protection equipment is available and properly maintained.
- Provide training to employees on respiratory hazards and proper respirator use.
- Employees:
- Attend training sessions on respiratory protection and follow program requirements.
- Properly wear and maintain respiratory protection equipment as instructed.
- Report any concerns or deficiencies related to respiratory protection to their supervisor or the safety officer.
4. Hazard Assessment:
Caliber Construction Alaska will conduct regular assessments to identify respiratory hazards in the workplace. This assessment will include an evaluation of potential airborne contaminants, exposure levels, and tasks that may require respiratory protection.
5. Selection of Respiratory Protection Equipment:
Respiratory protection equipment will be selected based on the hazards identified during the assessment. The selection process will consider the type and concentration of contaminants, as well as the specific requirements of the task and the individual wearer.
6. Training:
All employees required to wear respiratory protection will receive training on:
- The hazards associated with airborne contaminants.
- The types and limitations of respiratory protection equipment available.
- Proper fitting, use, and maintenance of respirators.
- Emergency procedures in case of respiratory protection failure.
7. Maintenance and Inspection:
Respiratory protection equipment will be regularly inspected, cleaned, and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines and program requirements. Any damaged or malfunctioning equipment will be promptly replaced.
8. Recordkeeping:
Records of respiratory hazard assessments, employee training, fit testing, and equipment maintenance will be maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements. These records will be readily available for inspection.
9. Program Evaluation:
The Respiratory Protection Program will be periodically evaluated to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Feedback from employees, incident reports, and changes in regulations or workplace conditions will be considered in the evaluation process.
10. Program Review:
This Respiratory Protection Program will be reviewed annually by management to ensure its continued effectiveness and compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards. Updates and revisions will be made as necessary.
This Respiratory Protection Program is endorsed by Caliber Construction Alaska management and is effective from the date of issuance.
