Caliber Construction Alaska Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Policy

Policy Statement: At Caliber Construction Alaska, the safety and well-being of our employees are of paramount importance. To ensure a safe working environment on all construction and maintenance projects, the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy is implemented.

Required PPE:

  1. Hard Hat: A hard hat must be worn by all personnel at all times while on construction sites or engaged in maintenance activities.
  2. Safety Glasses: Safety glasses must be worn by all personnel at all times.
  3. High Visibility Safety Vests: High visibility safety vests with reflective striping are required when employees are exposed to vehicular traffic.
  4. High Visibility Shirts: In the absence of vehicular traffic, high visibility shirts should be worn at all times.
  5. Shirts with Sleeves: All workers must wear shirts with sleeves.
  6. Long Work Pants: Long work pants must be worn by all workers.
  7. Sturdy Work Shoes or Boots: Sturdy work shoes or boots must be worn by all workers.

Prohibited Attire:

  1. Sleeveless or tank top shirts
  2. Short pants
  3. Sweatpants
  4. Sneakers
  5. Sandals
  6. High-heeled or open-toed shoes

Additional PPE Requirements: Depending on the circumstances and potential hazards present, additional PPE may be required. The determination of additional PPE requirements will be made by the supervisor based on the preliminary Job Hazard Analysis. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) may also be consulted for guidance. Additional PPE may include:

  1. Protective Gloves
  2. Hearing Protection
  3. Full Face Shields: Required when cutting, grinding, or chipping.
  4. Chemical Splash Goggles
  5. Respiratory Protection
  6. Fall Protection Equipment: Required when working above 6 feet.
  7. Specific Protective Clothing: Such as welding leathers when welding or Flame Resistant (FR) clothing when working with live electric.

Implementation: All employees are required to adhere to this PPE policy at all times while on construction sites or engaged in maintenance activities. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that employees are provided with appropriate PPE and that they comply with the policy. Failure to comply with the PPE policy may result in disciplinary action.

Review and Revision: This PPE policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. Any necessary revisions will be made in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including employees and EHS personnel.
